What a Non Towered Field Teaches You
KRXE has no control tower, and that is a better place to learn than people assume. You make your own radio calls, sequence yourself into the pattern, and build a picture of the traffic around you from what you hear. Pilots who start at a towered field usually end up learning this later on their own.
Short Runway, High Elevation
Runway 17/35 is 4,204 feet long at a field elevation of 4,862 feet, so short field and high altitude technique are not a special lesson here, they are just how you fly every day. On a hot afternoon the density altitude can pass 7,800 feet, which is where our SOP stops flying, so you learn to check it before you walk out to the airplane.
Everything Is on the Field
Our headquarters has instruction rooms, a briefing room, a pilot lounge, an operations center with dispatch, hangar space and on-site maintenance. That last one matters more than it sounds. When a squawk comes up the airplane goes to our own shop instead of waiting on an outside mechanic, which is the difference between missing one lesson and missing three weeks of them.

Rexburg is a BYU-Idaho town and we schedule around a semester. Intakes open monthly rather than by term, so you start when you decide to. You can fly through a track break, keep going over the summer, or ease off during finals. Tell dispatch what your term looks like and they will pace it.
