What is ground school and why is it required?
Ground school is the classroom side of flight training, where you learn the knowledge behind flying: aerodynamics, weather, regulations, navigation, airplane systems, and flight procedures. It's the foundation for everything you do in the cockpit and prepares you for the FAA written and oral exams. At Bravo 6, ground school is taught by an actual Certified Flight Instructor who teaches from real-world experience.
Is ground school offered in person, online, or both?
Both. We offer in-person ground school in Rexburg and Pocatello, as well as an online option, so you can learn in the format that fits your schedule and learning style.
Do I need to take ground school before I start flying?
No, you don't have to complete it first. Ground school is the foundation of your training and can be taken before or alongside your flight lessons. Many students do both at once so the knowledge and the hands-on flying reinforce each other.
How long does ground school take to complete?
Our in-person ground school runs four weeks, with 12 sessions totaling about 24 hours of coursework and Q&A. New cohorts start regularly in both Rexburg and Pocatello, so call us for the next available start date.
How much does ground school cost?
Ground school is $495.
Does ground school prepare me for the FAA written exam?
Yes. Preparing you to pass your FAA written and oral exams is a core goal of the course. You'll learn from a practicing CFI and have plenty of opportunity to ask questions and get answers grounded in real flying experience.
Can I do ground school alongside my flight lessons?
Absolutely, and we recommend it. Taking ground school concurrently with flight training lets you immediately apply what you learn in the classroom to what you do in the airplane, which helps both stick. Ground school can also be taken on its own, with or without concurrent flight training.
