According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), as a CFI, you are required to:
- Obtain a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) and an Instrument Rating (IR)
- Have at least 250 hours of flight time

A Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) rating allows you to teach others to fly and be paid for it. It's one of the most valuable certificates a professional pilot can hold, because teaching is also one of the best ways to deepen your own mastery of flying.
Why should I become a flight instructor?
Instructing is the classic path to building the flight hours airlines and employers want, and you get paid while you do it. Beyond the hours, teaching sharpens your decision-making, communication, leadership, and situational awareness, making you a stronger, safer pilot. Many of our instructors use the CFI role as their launchpad to airline and corporate careers.
What are the prerequisites for CFI training?

How long does CFI training take?

What additional instructor ratings can I add, such as CFII or MEI?
After your initial CFI, you can add a Certified Flight Instructor – Instrument (CFII) rating to teach instrument students. We offer CFII training in addition to your initial CFI. We currently do not offer Multi Engine Instructor Certification (MEI), but once we purchase a multi-engine plane in late 2026 / early 2027, that will be evaluated and possibly changed.
