A discovery flight is your introduction to flying: a short, hands-on lesson where you take the controls of one of our aircraft with a Certified Flight Instructor right beside you. It's designed for people who are curious about becoming a pilot and want to experience it before committing to a full training program. For most of our students, the discovery flight is step one of the journey.

Yes. This isn't a sightseeing ride in the back; you'll sit up front in the pilot's seat, put your hands on the yoke, and fly the airplane under the guidance of your instructor. The CFI handles anything you're not comfortable with yet, so you get a real feel for flying in a completely safe environment.

Usually it's just you and the instructor. Some students request bringing their friends or family along for the discovery flight. That may be a possibility if the atmospheric conditions are right and the weight and balance calculations are in order, but it's not always doable. A phone call ahead of time can usually help you determine that.

No experience and no medical certificate are required for a discovery flight, because you'll be flying with a Certified Flight Instructor. When you're ready to begin solo training later on, you'll need an FAA medical certificate, and we'll help you through that process when the time comes.

Keep it simple: comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing, closed-toe shoes, and sunglasses. Bring your phone or a camera for photos, and feel free to bring any questions you have about training. We'll provide everything else, including a headset for the flight.
