What to Expect in Your First Flight Lesson
Your first flight lesson at Bravo 6 Flight Academy is an exciting, hands-on introduction to flying. And yes, you’ll actually be in the cockpit for your very first lesson! Our Certified Flight Instructors (CFIs) want you to experience what it’s really like to pursue your Private Pilot License (PPL) or work toward advanced certifications.
Your First Flight Experience
You’ll fly in one of our Cessna 172 Skyhawks, known for its reliability and ease of handling—ideal for beginner pilots. Before takeoff, your CFI will walk you through a full pre-flight inspection to ensure the plane is safe and ready to fly and accompany you throughout the duration of the flight.
During the flight, the CFI will handle the takeoff and landing, but you’ll get to observe and learn from their techniques. Once you’re in the air, you’ll be introduced to basic flight controls and instruments. It’ll be a chance for you to try ascending, descending, and level flight under the CFI’s guidance. They’ll make sure you’re supported every step of the way.
After your flight, your CFI will guide you through a post-flight checklist, making sure that the plane is still in great condition and if anything needs to be adjusted. Pre and post flight checks are essential for a safe and smooth flight.

Our CFIs will clearly explain safety procedures, communication protocols, and what to expect in various flight scenarios. You’ll know exactly how Bravo 6 operates and what they will expect from you. We want you to feel confident and comfortable with each flight.
What Comes Next
Once you’ve had your introductory flight lesson at Bravo 6, you can anticipate more lessons that will explain plane aerodynamics or how to create a flight plan. You’ll use a combination of flight simulators, ground school coursework (online or in person), and instructor-led sessions to build your knowledge and skills.
